Time to get things updated!

It's been way too long since I made any update to this page.  I started out today by posting the latest Michael Vey book and now it is time to get you all caught up on what I've been reading.  There are so many great books out right now and as you know I'm all about the reading.

Hunt for Jade Dragon- Richard Paul Evans

Michael Vey 4: Hunt for Jade Dragon

Michael and the rest of the Electroclan have been assigned another mission.  This time they must rescue Lin Julung, or Jade Dragon, a young child with an IQ higher than Einstein's.  This dangerous assignment takes them to Taiwan where Hatch and the Glows are holding Jade Dragon in their Starxource plant.  Needless to say the security measures at this plant have been stepped up after the way the Electroclan destroyed the last one.  This electrifying adventure is the fourth installment of the #1 "New York Times "bestselling series.

Scarlet -Marissa Meyer (2nd book from The Lunar Chronicles)

Scarlet

Okay, so after blogging about the book Cinder I told you I couldn't wait to see where Marissa Meyer was going to take the story.  Well now I know!  Scarlet is loosely a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood (with a twist of course).  Meyer is doing a fabulous job of keeping us informed about Cinder, who is now the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive, while she introduces us to Scarlet and Wolf.  Who knew those two could ever have a mutual admiration thing going on! It takes the majority of the book before Cinder and Scarlet actually meet but the two story lines are so interesting that it flows together pretty seamlessly. Looking ahead (and at the next book cover) it looks like the next fairly tale character to join the group will be Rapunzel.  Cress is scheduled for release on February 4, 2014.

Perfect Escape- Jennifer Brown

thumbnail
Do you have a loved one who has a disability?  If so, you know what an impact that has on your whole family.  Jennifer Brown has written Perfect Escape, to show others what life can be like when a family member suffers from a debilitating disability.  She tells this story beautifully because she tells it from personal experience.

Kendra's older brother, Grayson, has OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) this means that he feels the need to check things repeatedly, or have certain thoughts or perform routines and rituals over and over. Helping Grayson requires so much of her parents attention that she feels compelled to be perfect so she can make things easier for them. It's a lot of pressure that she puts upon herself.  So much pressure that she does the unthinkable.  She cheats at school so her grades don't slip and prevent her from getting into her dream college.  There are some many things wrong with that decision but the most important one is that she involved a lot of other students and now that their cheating has been discovered kids are getting expelled. Kendra knows it won't be long before the administrators will be looking for her.  Kendra makes an impulsive decision that not only affects her but involves Grayson as well.  It is a story worth reading.

Divergent Series

Divergent Series Complete Box Set

Honestly, if you haven't heard of this series, let me fill you in!  It is so full of unexpected twists and turns that it feels like you're enjoying one long roller coaster ride.   So far Divergent and Insurgent are the only two books that have been released but Allegiant, the third book in the series, is due out Oct. 22nd. I would bet it has a record number of pre-sold copies through online book sellers.

Tris lives in a dystopian society that is divided into five factions--Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful) and Erudite (the intelligent). In her society at the age of sixteen-year-old you must decide which one of these factions best represents you because at a formal ceremony you will join that group.  Tris left her Abnegation family behind and chose to join the Dauntless faction.  As you can image, if you claim to be brave you're going to be asked to prove it before being completely accepted by your Dauntless peers.  The initiation is brutal and the competition is fierce, Tris witnesses things she would have never believed could happen between people.  She has to choose her friends wisely as she is not sure who to trust.

Cinder- Marissa Meyer

Cinder is a futuristic retelling of the classic fairy tale Cinderella.  Cinder's stepmother won't disappoint as she is just as cruel and spiteful as ever.  She keeps finding ways to interfere with Cinder's happiness, and uses the fact that Cinder is a cyborg against her every chance she gets.  Fortunately for Cinder the Prince is still a huge fan.  When you get to the end of this book you will be going WHAT!!!, I need the next installment now!

Michael Vey Series-Richard Paul Evans

An Electrifying Michael Vey Boxed Set: Michael Vey; Michael Vey 2; Michael Vey 3

Where do authors come up with these ideas???  The Michael Vey series is so exciting and fast paced that it will appeal to a wide audience of YA (Young Adult) readers.  Michael has Tourette's syndrome but that is not what makes him unique.  The fact that he is electric is his real "Super Power".  He can shock people and we're not just talking like a little static electricity shock.  We're talking knock people across the room "shock"!
He discovered this power at the young age of 7 when noticed that he glowed in the dark.  He kept this secret for a long time but now that he is growing, his power seems to be growing as well.  It's getting harder and harder to control. Through the series we learn that Michael is not alone.  Due to some freak accident at the hospital where he was born there are other children out there like Michael.  They all have a unique "super power" which the author uses to weave into pretty amazing stories.   I am waiting very anxiously for the next book to be released.
